Jan Maksymiuk (Podlachian: Jan Maksimjuk; Belarusian: Ян Максімюк) was born on May 18, 1958, in the village of Lachy (Podlachian: Lachi; Belarusian: Ляхі) in northeastern Poland.
Jan lives with his family in the Czech Republic where he works for the Prague-based Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty as a political analyst. He also writes essays on literature, language, and culture in Belarusian, Polish, and Podlachian. He is mostly known for his literary translations from Belarusian into Polish and several European languages into Belarusian and Podlachian.
In particular, he translated (or co-translated): James Joyce, Ulysses (into Belarusian, published in Poland in 1993); Tarjei Vesaas, Is-slottet (into Belarusian, published in Belarus in 2007), Vårnatt (into Podlachian, 2007, published on this site); Bohumil Hrabal, Taneční hodiny pro starší a pokročilé (into Belarusian, published in Poland in 2000 and Belarus in 2007); Patrick Modiano, Villa Triste (into Belarusian, published in Poland in 2002); Адам Глoбус, Дамавікамэрон (into Polish, published in Poland in 1998); Васіль Быкаў, Сьцяна (into Polish, published in Poland in 1999); Уладзімер Арлоў, Апавяданьні і аповесьці (into Polish, published in Poland in 2000 and 2006); Алесь Разанаў, Лясная дарога (into Polish, published in Poland in 2007); Валянцін Акудовіч, Дыялёгі з Богам (into Polish, published in Poland in 2008); Ігар Бабкоў, Каралеўства Беларусь/ Вытлумачэньні ру(і)наў (into Polish, published in Poland in 2008).

Prýzvuk (akcént) – velmi važna charakterystyka pudlaśkoho słova, pered usiêm tomu, što vôn svobôdny, to značyt, ne pryvezany do jakohoś określanoho składu v słovi. U siêtum i velika problema dla pudlašukôv.

Diś ja doznavsie, što v styčniovi v Chrabołach umer Michał Vrublevśki, autor „Słovnika hovôrki biêlśko-pudlaśkoji” (2008). Pochovali joho 13 styčnia na mohiłkach v Rajśku.

U siêtum teksti bude trochi pro sekrety ličby imiênnikuv u pudlaśkuj movi. Pudlaśka mova naležyt do tych rêdkich indoeuropejśkich movuv, u kotorych, okrum odinóčnoji i mnôžnoji ličby, vystupaje dovoli prymiêtno šče tak zvana parnája ličba (dualis).
